25 and still in college
Thanks, but honestly Ive been here since September and and have been going through feeling like this for a long time... Im trying to hang in there though, thanks!
You are not a failure. I went to uni late... I only finished last year and I was 28. I think it shows what strength you have as an individual to be able to go back to college, even though you find it hard and have social anxiety.
If you are finding it hard to make friends in college, is there anything you can do out of college that you enjoy where you could meet people?
I have problems with people in general. I just cant connect and nobody cares to approach or want to get to know me
I don't think you have problems connecting, you have connected with people here and people here want to get to know you. Maybe start here to help build your confidence and then work up to people in general?
Can you see a school counsellor?
Totally agree with Lace...she is right, you are connecting with people here & people here want to get to know you. Its a great medium to build your confidence. I also second what Lace said about a school counselor- you school tuition already pays for it! You might want to even try out a therapy group with other students who are feeling this way too, believe me, a lot more are than you think!
Warmly
Kellie Montgomery, LMFT
You are amazing for persisting in this path to education!!! One of my best friends, I met at a junior college when she was 35. I was 18 at the time, but we became instant buddies and age definitely did not matter. She graduated a four year university when she was 38. She had the same exact feelings you are going through, but she made it through. It was lonely for her a lot, but she found people to connect with. Any reasons, in particular, you think you are unable to connect with people on campus besides age?
Thats extremely inspiring and helpful cause I feel like its a lost cause. I have, fortunately made 2 good friends here but honestly i have no idea what else it is that is stopping or not allowing to make friendships like i used to...
Perhaps other people just aren't open to the fact of creating new friendships. Maybe just really focus on building the friendships you have now. Like they say (whoever "they" is) it happens when you least expect it, right?

Hi Mands, I don't think you are a loser at all!!!! I think you ROCK for going back to college!!! YAY!! Knowing you have done this even though you struggle with shyness and social anxiety issues, makes you a very strong, determined person!! Good for YOU!!!!
Truly please be easy on yourself as social anxiety can fool us into reading too much or too little in certain things involving other people. At least it does for me!!! I think as you settle in, you will begin to feel more comfortable and soon will be getting to know some of your classmates!!!
Also, now that you are a part of the support groups family, you can bring us along with you in spirit and you aren't alone then!!! We call it "being in your pocket" which means we are right there with you!!!!
I hope you will soon begin to feel your strength and accomplishments!!! I look forward to getting to know you and supporting you!!! Welcome!!!
Big understanding hugs, Suzee
