Depressed

Posted in Group:

I tell myself all of the time that I am a strong person. I put on a strong front and I walk out my front door with a smile on. But it's getting harder. In all honesty, I don't truly believe I've ever been all that strong...

I started college in August for photography. I'm only in my second semester. I moved 4.5 hours away from my whole life, all my family, all my friends, and my boyfriend. They said they'd visit, because in all honesty 4.5 hours really isn't thattttt far, but they haven't. I go home as often as I can, but living off financial aid and not having time to work doesn't make that drive very affordable...

Anyways, I'm depressed. I cry all the time, I try to surround myself with the new friends I have made. But as soon as I walk back into my apartment I feel like another little piece of my heart has chipped away. I feel like I'm weak.

Photography is for me. It is what I want to do with my life. It has been my dream for six years. But being at school so far away, I feel like I can't do it. All I dream about now is being done, being back home.

I joined this site because I feel like I'm breaking. I feel sad all the time but I don't want to. I don't want to hate it here, I want to enjoy this time and this experience, I just, I don't know how. It's so hard for me. And I don't know what to do...

Well you can always try looking for colleges that are more near home?? I know how you feel about putting on the act...I do that too like everything is okay, but in reality it isnt. You are strong...you just dont know it. Your strong enough to be here...your not dead from trying to committ suicide. Idf your still living day by day...you are strong and dont ever say that you arent because you are. But if you ever need to talk..im here, okay? and dont be afraid to inbox me.

When life hands you lemons, make apple juice and have everyone wondering how you did it.

I cannot go to school closer to home because they do not offer what I need at the schools in that area. The school I am attending is a nationally recognized program. I chose to come here because of that reason, plus it is cheaper and closer than Savannah College of Art and Design which was where I was planning to go. Thank you so much. Support seems to be what I'm lacking from the people I feel closest too...

Hope you can write yourself " + sticky notes on your fridge or in your bathroom mirror" like I do. Things like #1 Photographer or something like that.

Crying is good...but after you do pat yourself on the shoulder and say "Soon I'll go home ....and do a count down....or plan things you will do when you finish'

I write a lot ... Dear Me, etc.

Hang in there!

I understand completely how you feel. Most of my close friends go to school at least 5 hours away, my boyfriend goes to school 5 hours away. It's extremely difficult to find support because sometimes, you just need the support of those you're most comfortable with. I try to surround myself with all my school friends, I try to be sociable and be involved as well as go out and party. Ultimately, each day I feel like I can push and fight less and less with the situation. I want to be home more than I want to be at school

Maybe it will help for us to keep in touch to get through this period.

Keep calm & carry on.

It helps to get a pen to paper and write down why you do what you do, who for, who you want to make proud etc. Write down things that you're good for/at. It helps me not to feel like the scum of the earth sometimes ^_^
Put everything you do into doing it for someone else and then you will just want to do it for you because it feels good to accomplish something as difficult as college!
